One Tuesday morning, a training institute we supported sent us a short message: “We got zero enquiries yesterday.” Their ads had been running well for weeks. Nothing on the surface had changed.
It is a stomach-dropping moment for any business owner. It is also the moment when calm, step-by-step work matters most.
Check the simple things first
Before changing anything, we went through a short checklist:
- Are the ads approved and still running?
- Has the budget run out or the payment method failed?
- Is the website loading properly on mobile and desktop?
- Does the enquiry form actually send?
- Is tracking still recording results?
The ads were fine. Clicks were arriving at normal levels. That told us people were still interested, and the problem sat somewhere between the click and the enquiry.
Finding the cause
We tested the form ourselves. It looked normal, but the message never arrived. A routine website plugin update the day before had broken the connection between the form and the institute’s email. Visitors were filling it in and nothing was reaching the team.
We fixed the connection within the hour. We also checked the form’s stored entries and found the “missing” enquiries had been saved on the site. The institute contacted every one of them the same day, so almost nothing was lost.
Telling the client early
We did not wait for a perfect answer. We told the owner within thirty minutes what we had checked, what we had ruled out, and what we were testing next. A short, honest update kept the whole team calm and focused.
What we changed afterwards
- We now send a test enquiry every morning.
- We set up an alert if enquiries drop below a normal level.
- We test forms after every site update.
When results drop, resist the urge to change the ads first. Check the path, tell people early, and fix one thing at a time.
